The origin of Grimm was to create a typeface in the spirit of Elliott Peter Earls' Subluxation, but somewhere in the process things shifted to a blackletter influenced uppercase while the lowercase became more roman.
The end result is a quirky little blackletter display typeface.

Grim is a display family with a lot of room for application, most obvious being the tightly fitted headlines with impact.
It works especially well as a counterpart to a serious, refined serif font. Each family member comes with a set of useful pictograms: arrows, triangles, hands, smilies and a heart.

Greene and Hollins of Wolverhampton were a rather smart gentlemans outfitter, much frequented by my late grandfather and altogether redolent (in memory and actuality) of a bygone age of retail service and respect.
I believe theyre out of business now, but were rather pleased to offer them this very small if rather random memorial. Greene and Hollins is a set of seven display typefaces, with uniform metrics, which can be overlaid to create multi-coloured engraved effects.
Also ideal to recreate traditional sign-writing, garment labels, signage and anything else where a period flare is required.

Kate Greenaway was a very famous British (1846-1901) author and illustrator of childrens books. Her books were an outstanding success in English publishing during the Victorian period. Recently I found these sweet Mignonettes in an old foundry specimen book. Mignonettes is derived from the French word “mignon” which stands for lovely, charming, sweet, delightful, pleasant and that does exactly describe these little drawings. I already published a Kate Greenaway’s Alphabet a couple of years ago. So here is my second installment.
